A year ago we stomped the marsh for the first time. It was an experiment that turned to be an amazing success.

The stomping created a habitat that’s proved to be a lot better than we anticipated. Since that stomp at Solstice last year we’ve had countless birds, many very rare, a huge explosion of colour from wildflowers buzzing with insects, and we’ve found frogs and toads and newts.

Simply stomping a small part of the marsh helps create a muddy wetland that was overgrown before we started. It’s what cattle would have done, but they’ve gone now. This year we’ve been scything a bigger area than last time and we’re going to stomp it all down on 21 December. So we need more stompers!
We’d like as many people as possible to lend a foot, or feet.
All you need is clean wellies and warm clothes. Here’s a video of that first stomp. https://youtu.be/kI4GUN0FI-0?si=b7lBpv17lG3nB4sp
(Please wash your wellies before coming as we don’t want to risk introducing anything invasive)
The meeting point is by the entrance to the water treatment works at Fobney mead, at the junction of Rose Kiln lane and the A33.
It’s a on the edge of town, easy to walk and cycle to, and there are bus stops nearby at Kennet Island.
It’s an accessible event, children are welcome and there are drier / shallow areas where even little wellies can venture.
